You probably either appreciate a good cup of coffee or have interest in producing a quality coffee for people in the are you live, maybe both like me…. I’ve lived in Michigan all of my life and my work has seldom taken me much further than Indiana or Ohio.  I have traveled a bit though and one of the “creature comforts” common to every place I’ve ventured is coffee.

A seemingly unconnected chain of events led me to explore making my own coffee.  One of those was a fresh produce market I was involved during a warm fall in central Michigan. And another was a during a sailing adventure around Beaver Island Michigan.

The produce market really just opened my eyes to the fact that many people, just like me, were interested in consuming quality food and were aware of the goodness inherent in quality fresh fruits and vegetables.  I guess I thought the idea was largely ignored… I was wrong.  I do some sailing and one summer I noticed a new deli pop up on Beaver Island, a place I love.  The deli promoted and sold a free trade organic coffee that was just great, a little pricey, but not what I thought it might be.  During that same week while visiting friends on the Island I was served a cup of coffee ground from fresh beans upon making the pot.  I had been on the boat for six weeks or so at the time and was “enjoying” a supermarket Maxwell house type coffee, you know the kind in the plastic jugs.

This one week got me interested and looking into the specifics of producing a high quality fresh cup of gourmet coffee in Michigan.  One of the main things I learned was the impact that production compared to delivery had upon the final product.  I also learned that in order to offer a top of the line gourmet coffee to my friends in Michigan I would have to use green coffee beans and roast those beans when they ordered them, then ship them in a smart packaging technology that would keep the coffee as fresh as it could be.  The other key point had to do with them.  They would have to order the coffe in smaller quanities and more often.  Instead of the big old plastic jug of coffee from the super market, 12 or 16 ounce portions order a couple times a month would many times over produce a better cup of coffee.

Convenient Way to Get Good Coffee

Really the next question was how can I do all that and match the convenience that people were presently enjoying?  Well my answer was this website, taking orders online, roasting and shipping same day gourmet coffee in small quantities that was packaged in a way that preserved the freshness of the beans.  To be honest it was a lot more complicated than I realised, but here’s the thing.

I like coffee, and I wanted to roast my own anyway, so why not spend an hour or two in the morning roasting to fill a few orders from my friends right?  I don’t aspire to own a coffee shop, or a “big” coffee business, I had a big business once and it isn’t anything I desire to wake up to today.  What I do enjoy today is what I call “Multiple Streams of Income”….. it sound fancy, but it isn’t.  I have several small streams of income that flow into my finances, some online and some off.  Things I enjoy and like to do anyway.

I started down this path after staying on that same Island for about 8 months a few years ago and realizing that I wasn’t really steering my life the way I wanted to go.  I had a strong desire for simple and yearned for time freedom so I sat about creating that over the next couple years. And that journey brought me to the Michigan gourmet coffee Idea.

You see roasting coffee beans won’t make me rich financially, but It seemed enjoyable and gave me something I could offer friends and folks I met along the way.

So If you’d like to try my coffee, fill out the form or send me an email, I can likely put together a free samle, just for you.
